Is Video Monitoring the Same as CCTV?

A property can have a full CCTV installation that records to a drive with nobody watching—this satisfies "having cameras" but delivers no real-time protection. Video monitoring is the service layer (human, AI, or both) that makes hardware useful in the moment an incident occurs, rather than just for investigation afterward.
On-Premise Recording vs. Cloud-Based Video Monitoring
On-Premise (DVR/NVR)
Keeps footage physically at the property. This allows for faster local retrieval and eliminates ongoing subscription costs. However, it creates a single point of failure—a break-in that disables or steals the recorder destroys the very evidence needed for identification.
Cloud-Based Storage
Generally more reliable for long-term access because footage is stored off-site. It is not dependent on a single hard drive at the property that could be damaged, stolen, or accidentally overwritten during an incident.
